In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake. You will learn about the history of the Old Quarter, its traditional guilds, and follow our guide through its narrow streets full of surprises. A perfect way to feel the atmosphere of Hanoi from your very first day!

Among other visits, you will discover the surroundings of Hoan Kiem Lake, the Ngoc Son Temple located on a small island in the lake, and the lively Dong Xuan Market.

The afternoon ends with a performance of the traditional water puppet show, where you will learn Vietnamese legends while enjoying this unique art form.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2
Hanoi - historical and cultural discovery (B, L)

You will have breakfast at your hotel. Our guide and driver will pick you up to continue discovering the city of Hanoi.

In the morning, you will explore Vietnam’s history with visits to the Temple of Literature (a symbol of Confucianism) and Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest Buddhist pagoda in Hanoi.

After lunch in a local restaurant, you will visit the Museum of Ethnology, which gathers a vast collection of information and artifacts about the 54 ethnic groups living in Vietnam.

Day 3
Hanoi - Duong Lam - Nghia Lo (B, L, D)

It’s the day of your departure to Northern Vietnam! After breakfast, your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel.

On the way, you will make a first stop at Duong Lam (Mong Phu) village, a typical settlement of the Red River Delta culture, considered the cradle of the Viet (Kinh) civilization. The village is famous for its ancient houses, with some belonging to the same families for over 300 years. You will visit a few of these traditional homes and enjoy lunch in one of them. You will also discover the communal house and Mia Pagoda.

In the afternoon, the journey continues northward into a landscape of increasingly higher hills covered with tea plantations. After crossing the Khé Pass, you will arrive at the Thai village of Muong Lo, set in a vast rice plain surrounded by high mountains—the second largest plain in Northern Vietnam after Dien Bien Phu.

Dinner and overnight with a local host in Muong Lo.

Day 4
Nghia Lo - Mu Cang Chai (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will continue your journey towards Mu Cang Chai, passing through the Hmong village of Nga Ba Kim. By car, you will climb into the mountains, surrounded by peaks rising over 2,000 meters, overlooking magnificent rice terraces. Lunch in a local restaurant.

Day 7
Ninh Binh - Cat Ba island - Lan Ha bay (B, L, D)

The driver will pick you up at your hotel around 7:00 AM, heading to Cat Ba Island! You will first take a ferry to reach the island. After the ferry, to get to Cat Ba town (about 30 km away), where our junk is moored, we suggest an off-the-beaten-path one-hour motorbike ride with driver. If you prefer, you can take the bus instead of trying the motorbike experience.

Around 12:30 PM, you will board one of our boats. The junk first sails through the fishing village of Hang Vem in Lan Ha Bay. Sailing by wind is possible depending on weather conditions. During the cruise, take time to relax, swim, and enjoy the sun on deserted beaches (weather permitting). You will also have the opportunity to go kayaking and visit a floating fishing village.

Lunch and dinner will be served on board, featuring fresh seafood (fish, shrimp, squid, shellfish) purchased the same day from local fishermen. You will spend the night on board, anchored in a quiet cove in the middle of Lan Ha Bay.

Day 8
Lan Ha bay - Cat Ba island - Hanoi - flight to Hue (B, L)

Breakfast on board the junk before starting the morning program: a 2-hour cycling trip to Viet Hai village. After the ride, brunch will be served on the boat. Return to Cat Ba Island around 12:30 PM to meet your driver.

Transfer directly to Hanoi Airport for your flight to Hue.

Upon arrival in Hue, you will be welcomed and transferred to the city by your driver (without guide).

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9
Hue - city tour (B, L)

After breakfast, take a sampan boat ride to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and the mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc (or Minh Mang / Khai Dinh, depending on your choice). Enjoy a vegetarian lunch at Lien Hoa Pagoda.

In the afternoon, visit the Imperial City of Hue: the Noon Gate, the Palace of Supreme Harmony, the Royal Reading Pavilion, and the temples of the Nguyen dynasty.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13
Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho - Ben Tre - Thoi Son (B, L, D)

After breakfast, depart from your hotel for a 1h15 drive to My Tho, the first gateway to the Mekong, located 70 km south of Saigon. Along the way, your French-speaking guide will share insights about Saigon, current life in Vietnam, the Mekong, the Indochina and Vietnam wars, as well as the historical and cultural ties between France and Vietnam, and will answer all your questions.

Upon arrival in My Tho, visit Vinh Trang Pagoda, the oldest and most sacred in the region. Here, you will learn about Vietnamese Buddhism, as well as Taoism, Confucianism, and the ancestral worship that deeply shape Vietnamese culture.

Next, head to the pier and board a private junk for a crossing of the upper Mekong, sailing around the Dragon and Unicorn islands in Ben Tre province. Small sampans will then take you into the narrow arroyos, where you will be amazed by the lush local vegetation of coconut palms and nipa palms.

Disembark in Tan Thach hamlet and enjoy a short walk to a village restaurant hosted by locals. Lunch of Mekong specialties will be served in the middle of the orchards. Visit the floating market and an artisan village: discover local life, see how rice paper is made, explore traditional crafts, and taste local specialties such as coconut candies, puffed rice cakes, and longan honey tea.

Lunch will be served at the Kiet family’s home, in a beautiful old traditional wooden house.

Afterwards, continue on a larger boat towards Vinh Long, 170 km south of Saigon. Enjoy about 1 hour of cruising through the arroyos, where you can relax in hammocks and take in the landscape.

Arrive and disembark on An Binh Island at a local homestay, surrounded by orchards. Taste seasonal fruits while attending a performance of Don Ca Tai Tu, the traditional music of the Mekong, recently recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Around 4:00 PM, cross the Mekong by boat to visit a brick factory, then disembark at Vinh Long port to explore the colorful local market.

Return by car to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving at your hotel in the evening. Dinner at your leisure and overnight at the hotel.
