Northern Vietnam has many great assets, and its terraced rice fields are certainly among them!

Many travelers want to discover these grand achievements made by the men and women living in the remote and mountainous regions of Southeast Asia.

We have designed this itinerary for them!

This journey will take you to explore the Mu Cang Chai region, still relatively unknown, but which will undoubtedly amaze you with the beauty of its landscapes! Before that, you’ll make a stop with the White Thai people in Nghia Lo, where you will be welcomed as family members.

You will then continue your journey to Sapa, a hill station during the French colonial period, which has now become the preferred terrain for hikers and travel photographers. You’ll have the opportunity to admire the majestic Mount Fansipan, the “roof of Indochina,” standing at an altitude of 3,143 meters. You’ll also meet the Hmong people, who make up the majority of the population in these mountains.

Hanoi - Duong Lam - Nghia Lo (L, D)
After breakfast, your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel. You'll hit the road and make your first stop in the village of Duong Lam (Mong Phu), a typical village representing the culture of the Red River Delta inhabitants. It's known as the cradle of the Vietnamese (Kinh) civilization and famous for having several houses owned by the same family for over 300 years. You'll visit some of these houses and have lunch in one of them. You'll also visit the communal house and Mia Pagoda. In the afternoon, you'll continue your journey northward, entering a landscape of progressively higher hills covered in tea plantations. You'll pass through the Khe Pass and arrive in the Thai town of Muong Lo by late afternoon. This town is situated in a vast plain surrounded by high mountains, making it the largest in the North after Dien Bien Phu. You'll have dinner and spend the night in a local homestay in Muong Lo.

Nghia Lo - Mu Cang Chai (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will hit the road for Mu Cang Chai, passing through the Hmong village of Nga Ba Kim. You will then ascend, surrounded by peaks over 2000 meters high, overlooking terraced rice fields. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, you will go for a hike and visit La Pan Tan village, well-known for having the most beautiful terraced rice fields in the north. You will then reach the village of Cau Ba Nha after a 2-hour walk. You will continue by car to Mu Cang Chai, with the opportunity to explore beautiful landscapes along the way and the option to walk, depending on the weather and your desires, particularly around the village of Phing Ho. You will arrive in Mu Cang Chai by late afternoon. Overnight stay in Mu Cang Chai.

Mu Cang Chai - Sapa - Ta Phin (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will depart for Sapa, enjoying beautiful landscapes and encountering ethnic minorities along the way. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, wearing suitable footwear, you will take a 3 to 4-hour walk through the villages of Ma Tra and Lu Khau, eventually arriving at the village of Ta Phin, inhabited by the Red Dao ethnic group. There is an opportunity to have a soothing herbal bath after dinner (at your own expense).

Ta Phin - Bac Ha (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the starting point of the trek. The trail is a bit more challenging than the previous day, but with beautiful off-the-beaten-path landscapes that will rejuvenate you. Enjoy a picnic lunch or dine at a restaurant based on your preference. Then, depart for Bac Ha, where you will arrive in the late afternoon. Dinner is not included and you'll have a free evening. Overnight stay at Bac Ha Hotel Ngan Nga or similar.

Bac Ha - Ethnic Market - Hanoi (B, L)
After breakfast, visit the ethnic minority markets. Saturday: Can Cau Market; Sunday: Bac Ha Market or Muong Khuong Market. Return to Hanoi by car (350 km - 5 hours of driving), arriving in Hanoi in the late afternoon. End of the tour.
