After breakfast, depart for the village of Kompong Khleang, located about 50 km from Siem Reap. The villagers here almost exclusively live off fishing. You'll explore the canals (during the rainy season) and streets (in the dry season) of this incredible floating village. During the wet season, the houses appear to rest on the lake, with water lapping at the doors. But in the dry season, the massive stilts are revealed, showcasing a unique landscape of wooden skyscrapers. You'll visit a pagoda built on the site of an ancient temple and discover beautiful murals. Continuing your boat journey, you'll make a stop at one of the village houses to learn more about the lives of the fishermen on the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. You'll have lunch with a village resident who will warmly welcome you. It will be a simple yet typically Khmer meal. After breakfast, you will set out to explore the capital of Cambodia. The program includes a cyclo ride and a visit to the Royal Palace, as well as the Silver Pagoda (its floor is covered with 5,000 silver tiles and it holds the country's most beautiful treasures). After lunch, the atmosphere will change as you delve into Cambodia's recent difficult history: a visit to Tuol Sleng, the former high school in Phnom Penh that the Khmer Rouge transformed into an interrogation, torture, and death center. Now converted into a museum, the former Prison S21 serves as a somber reminder to every visitor of the atrocities committed in Cambodia during the dreadful years of dictatorship. No fewer than 17,000 people were inmates of Tuol Sleng prison, and only 7 survived to tell the tale of the suffering endured. The visit to S21 can be a disturbing and poignant experience that some may find difficult to bear. Nevertheless, it is a key to understanding the hell and madness into which Cambodia plunged during those years of the Khmer Rouge regime. You will end the day by visiting the National Museum of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, which houses the most fabulous collection of sculptures dating from the Angkorian period. This splendid building was constructed between 1917 and 1920 and features a magnificent inner courtyard, a lush garden surrounded by the museum's unique exhibits.
