Ba Na hills and the Golden Bridge, mountain theme park in Danang

Table des matières

You’ve probably seen photos of the gigantic stone hands holding a bridge above the mountains, or heard about a restored colonial-era mountain resort outside Da Nang. This place, which has attracted international media attention, is the amusement park built by SunGroup known as Ba Na Hills.

If you are traveling with your family in Vietnam, make sure not to skip this stop — it will delight both children and adults. Discover our ideas for family-friendly itineraries in Vietnam to enjoy Ba Na Hills and Central Vietnam in complete peace of mind.

Presentation of Ba Na Hill

Located just 35 kilometers from the city of Da Nang on Nui Chua Mountain, Ba Na Hills was once a colonial-era mountain resort that has now become a highly popular tourist destination, especially since the construction of the Golden Bridge. Benefiting from a cool and mild climate, Nui Chua Mountain has been considered the “Da Lat of Da Nang” since the station was inaugurated by the French in 1919.

The name “Ba Na” comes from the Katu language of the local ethnic minority group living in the area, and it means “my mountain.”

When visiting Ba Na Hills, you will have the chance to discover—or rediscover—French-style architecture, but above all, to enjoy a wide range of exciting attractions.

The amusement park is divided into three main areas:

  • The lower section, featuring Linh Ung Pagoda, the Garden of Love, the Debay Wine Cellar, and the famous Golden Bridge.
  • The upper section, with the French Village and Fantasy Park.
  • The mountain summit, home to the Tru Vu Tea and Relaxation Space.

When to visit Ba Na Hills?

If you are visiting Ba Na Hills mainly to take photos of the Golden Bridge, we recommend coming between April and August. Keep in mind, however, that this is also the busiest time of year for the park.

If you prefer a calmer atmosphere and a Golden Bridge that is empty (or almost), choose September to March. Just don’t forget to bring an umbrella, as September and October are typically rainy months.

How to get to Ba Na Hills

There are three ways to reach Ba Na Hills:

By bus: the cheapest option, costing 120,000–150,000 VND for a round trip and 100,000 VND for a one-way ticket.

By motorbike: if you can ride a motorbike, why not rent one and start your day trip on your own? In Da Nang, renting a motorbike or scooter is easy and costs around 80,000–150,000 VND per day. Follow the Ba Na – Suoi Mo road, which will lead you directly to the ticket counter of Ba Na Hills.

By taxi: the quickest—and therefore most expensive—option. Expect to pay between 350,000 and 500,000 VND per ride. Of course, the more people you share the ride with, the cheaper it becomes per person.

Once you arrive at the foot of the mountain, you will have no choice but to take the cable car. The Ba Na Hills cable car system is considered one of the ten most impressive cable car lines in the world. It holds multiple records, including the longest distance between two stations, the heaviest cable, and the greatest change in elevation.

How much does the entrance cost?

The ticket for the Ba Na Hills cable car costs 700,000 VND (30 USD) per adult and 550,000 VND (25 USD) per child for a round-trip ticket.

The price includes, in addition to the cable car ride:

  • Most of the games at Fantasy Park (105 games and the Alpine Coaster)
  • The 70,000 VND ticket for the funicular train to Debay Cellar and the Garden of Love

However, it does not include:

  • The ticket for the Wax Museum: 100,000 VND per adult
  • Indoor sports at Fantasy Park

You can buy tickets on-site or, if you prefer to avoid waiting in line, purchase them online directly on the park’s official website.

What to do in Ba Na Hills? Our selection of activities

Enjoy the view from the cable car

With three cable car lines totaling 25 kilometers, the longest ride takes about 20 minutes to reach the top of the mountain.

The lines departing from Da Nang are as follows:

Dream Spring Station – Ba Na Station

Taking this line, which is the shortest, allows you to visit the Linh Ung Pagoda with its giant Buddha statue and take a funicular to Le Jardin d’Amour — a charming French-style garden. Afterwards, take the Debay – Morin cable car up to the mountaintop to visit the resort complex and Fantasy Park.

Toc Tien Station – L’Indochine Station

This line holds several world records: the longest single-rope cable, the greatest elevation difference between stations, the longest unprotected cable span, and the heaviest cable reel in the world. The ride lasts around 20 minutes and passes over the stunning Toc Tien waterfall.

The only line departing from Hoi An station:

Hoi An Station – Marseille Station

From Hoi An Station, the cable car takes you to Marseille Station, located right next to the famous Golden Bridge. From there, you must take a funicular to Le Jardin d’Amour and Linh Ung Pagoda. To reach the summit, catch another cable car at Bordeaux Station.

You may think the ticket price is high, but it actually includes many activities available on the Ba Na Hills, as mentioned earlier. Moreover, the scenery during the ride is absolutely worth every cent! From the cabin, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains and the sea.

Stroll along the impressive Golden Bridge

The Golden Bridge, connecting Marseille Station to Le Jardin Station, became famous even before its opening in 2018! When it officially opened, the bridge sparked a global sensation and was even named “the most beautiful landscape in the world” by Time magazine.

Why does the Golden Bridge attract so much attention from travelers worldwide?
The most obvious reason is its breathtaking appearance — a delicate golden walkway held up by enormous moss-covered stone hands, offering sweeping views over the city of Da Nang.

Golden Bridge of Ba Na Hills, Vietnam

It’s easy to say that the Golden Bridge is the most “Instagrammable” site in Vietnam! Facing the sunrise over the East Sea, the views from the bridge are spectacular on clear days and beautifully moody when it’s foggy. Go early in the morning to have the bridge almost to yourself — it will definitely be crowded later. For the best weather, plan your visit in summer.

A french village… in Vietnam!

The French Village of Ba Na Hills is a miniature recreation of medieval French architecture — a remarkably designed replica down to each corner and alleyway.

Visitors are often amazed when they first see this astonishingly realistic village! Everything is there, or almost: a church, a square with a fountain, shops, restaurants, and hotels. With little or no blending of other architectural styles and the fresh mountain air, the place truly gives you the feeling of suddenly being in Europe.

Of course, you’ll enjoy the charming architecture and ambiance — but not only that. Many artists perform in the streets of the French Village, and they are more than happy to play, pose, and take photos with you.

At nightfall, the medieval atmosphere fades as the buildings light up and sparkle with thousands of lights!

If you wish to stay longer in the French Village, the Mercure Hotel should be your choice — not only for its luxury services, but also because it blends in perfectly with the French-style buildings around it, giving you the impression of staying not in a hotel, but in a local residence.

Enjoy a romantic moment at the Garden of Love

This beautiful garden is located in the lower part of Ba Na Hills, on the same level as the Linh Ung Pagoda, the giant white Buddha statue, and the Debay wine cellar. To reach it, you’ll take a short funicular ride.

No fewer than nine different gardens make up the Garden of Love, each telling a unique love story. It’s a paradise for flower lovers and fans of European-style architecture — a harmonious setting that particularly delights young couples!

The nine gardens are: Love Garden, Mystery Garden, Legendary Garden, Memory Garden, Heaven Garden, Grape Garden, Brain Storming Garden, Dream Spring Garden et Sacred Garden.

Love Garden is considered the most beautiful of them all.

Linh Ung pagoda and the giant white Buddha statue

Located at 1,500 meters above sea level, right next to the Garden of Love, Linh Ung Pagoda is an ideal place to enjoy panoramic views of Da Nang city beneath a magical sea of clouds. Its most prominent feature is the giant white Buddha statue, visible from the flower gardens. In the pagoda’s front courtyard stands a special pine tree — a Pinus kesiya, listed in Vietnam’s Red Book as a precious and protected species.

Taste wine in the 100-year-old Debay Wine Cellar

Since you’re already in the Garden, don’t forget to visit the century-old wine cellar named Debay Cellar, built by the French in 1923. The cellar was dug 100 meters deep through Ba Na Mountain to maintain a constant temperature of 16 to 20 degrees. A special material was used in its construction—something you may have never heard of: litsea cubeba resin, called mang tang in Vietnamese, which is found only in this region.

Come to Debay Cellar and you can taste some of the best wines from Da Nang, and even from Vietnam.

Visit the Wax Museum of Ba Na Hills

We also recommend visiting the Ba Na Hills Wax Museum, the first of its kind to open in Vietnam. Entry to the museum is not included in the cable car ticket, so you can choose whether to pay to visit or not. It’s worth it if you want to introduce this type of museum to your children. You’ll find all kinds of famous people here: politicians like Obama or Queen Elizabeth II, celebrities like Lady Gaga and Marilyn Monroe, and athletes such as Messi and Michael Jordan.

Try the Alpine Coaster

Before heading to Fantasy Park, why not have some fun on the Alpine Coaster? The maximum speed you can reach is 40 km/h.

The Ba Na Hills tracks go up and down, weaving through the forest of Mount Chua. Teenagers will love it!

Have fun at Fantasy Park

Inspired by two famous science-fiction novels—Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne—Fantasy Park is the perfect place to release stress and have fun with friends and family.

If you like active and thrilling games, check out The Drop Tower, with a free-fall peak of 29 meters. You’ll see a delicate and beautiful glass dome before being dropped—without any warning—into a huge karst cave that you could only have imagined from the books mentioned above.

The 4D Death Race and 5D cinemas are also not to be missed. In total, there are more than 90 games for you to enjoy here!

Enjoy tea at Tru Vu Tra Quan tea house

One thing is certain: nothing beats savoring a warm, fragrant cup of tea in a cool place. Located at the highest point of the entire complex, Tru Vu Tea Corner is a dream location for tea lovers. The house was built based on the traditional architecture of northern Vietnam, combined with elements of Japanese culture such as a square wooden table and a Japanese floor cushion. The view is also exceptional. Imagine yourself sipping tea while admiring the vintage French village with the mountains as a backdrop!
