Overview

Parfum d’Automne invites you to explore one of Northern Vietnam’s lesser-known gems: Hoang Su Phi, a mountainous district in Ha Giang Province.
Here, you’ll encounter some of the most spectacular terraced rice fields in the country and a remarkable diversity of ethnic minority groups — 12 in total.

This 6-day trek will allow you to immerse yourself in the culture of four of them: the Flower Hmong, the Red Dao, the Long-Tunic Dao, and the Nung.

Be ready for unforgettable encounters with these warm and welcoming communities. Guided by our expert French-speaking guide, you’ll gain deep insights into their traditions, daily lives, and the ancestral farming techniques that have shaped the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Vietnam.

Please note: this program requires good physical condition, with daily hikes of over 10 km on steep and uneven terrain.

Itinerary

Day 1
Ha Noi - Tuyen Quang - Nam Hong (L, D)

Departure by private car with our guide and driver towards the high mountains of Ha Giang, a region located in the far north of the country, close to the Chinese border. Along the way, you will stop in traditional villages, green tea plantations, and terraced rice fields… offering you the chance to discover the rural and mountainous life of northern Vietnam. Lunch will be served in a local restaurant en route.

In the afternoon, arrival in Ha Giang and check-in at a traditional Red Dao house, built in the middle of the mountains and terraced rice fields of the Hoang Su Phi valley. End of the day exploring the village with your guide. Dinner and overnight with a Red Dao family.

Day 2
Nam Hong - Nam Ty (B, L, D)

From valleys to mountain passes, we explore a region long kept secret by its remote location, where the mountain ethnic groups live from cultivating Shan tea, harvesting cardamom, and gathering many medicinal plants sold to the Chinese market.
The inhabitants have divided the land like a mosaic, depending on altitude: the Hmong at the very top, the Dao on the mountain slopes between 500 and 1,000 meters, and the Tay in the fertile valley floors. Although they are strangers to one another, with different customs and languages, they remain close neighbors.

During this day, you will meet both Hmong and Red Dao communities. Dinner and overnight stay with a Hmong family.

Day 3
Nam Ty - Nam Ai (B, L, D)

Day 4
Nam Ai - Nam Khoa (B, L, D)

A magnificent day of trekking along the terraced rice fields awaits you.
Daily life unfolds all around—in the fields, in the forest, and along the winding paths. As we walk, we meet local villagers and gain insights into their everyday routines.

In the evening, dinner and overnight stay in a traditional Nung homestay, offering an authentic glimpse into the culture of this welcoming ethnic group.

Day 5
Nam Khoa – Lang Giang (B, L, D)

Breakfast. Trek to the village of Lang Giang. Visit a mountain school and meet the Tay people. Dinner and overnight stay in a local homestay.

Day 6
Lang Giang – Tuyen Quang – Hanoi (B, L)

Breakfast with your hosts, then a short walk to meet your car. Drive back to Hanoi, with arrival around 5:00–6:00 PM. Transfer to the airport if needed.
