Embark on an authentic 8-day journey through Northeast Vietnam, a wild and unspoiled region where dramatic landscapes blend seamlessly with centuries-old traditions.
Meet the ethnic communities of Ha Giang, whose colorful attire and warm hospitality offer a rare insight into Vietnam’s cultural diversity. Travel along the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Asia, with panoramic views over deep valleys and limestone peaks. Be mesmerized by the grandeur of the Ban Gioc Waterfalls, cascading on the border with China, and unwind in the serene beauty of Ba Be Lake, surrounded by lush forests and hidden caves.
This off-the-beaten-path adventure combines breathtaking nature, meaningful encounters, and cultural discovery — a perfect choice for travelers seeking both authenticity and wonder.
After breakfast, you will take the road towards Bac Ha (approximately 6 hours’ drive). Lunch in a local restaurant. You will arrive in Bac Ha around 2:00 pm and enjoy a short rest at the guesthouse.
In the afternoon: visit the village of Ban Pho and meet with the local inhabitants. Stop along the way for beautiful photo opportunities. Dinner and overnight at Bac Ha Ngan Nga Hotel or equivalent.
After breakfast, visit the ethnic minority market (Saturday: Can Cau Market; Sunday: Bac Ha or Muong Khuong Market). Around 10:00 am, depart by car for the town of Ha Giang. Along the way, enjoy stunning landscapes and observe the daily life of local ethnic communities. Multiple stops are planned for photo opportunities and short walks (depending on your preferences).
Arrival in Ha Giang late in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a local homestay.
After breakfast, you will set off on the spectacular road from Ha Giang to Dong Van, a breathtaking route of winding mountain passes and dramatic valleys. On the way, you will stop at Quan Ba, known as the “Heaven’s Gate,” to admire the stunning natural scenery. Continue with visits to several ethnic minority villages, where you will have the chance to meet and interact with the locals.
Lunch at a local restaurant. Arrival in Dong Van around 4:00 pm. Dinner and overnight in Dong Van.
After breakfast, begin your day with a visit to the ruins of the French fort of Pu Lo, built in 1890 and abandoned in 1945. From here, enjoy a wide and stunning panoramic view.
Continue along the road leading to Meo Vac, one of the most spectacular stretches of the region, where you will marvel at the dramatic landscapes of the Ma Pi Leng Pass.
After lunch, the journey continues to Bao Lac, with arrival scheduled in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Thuy Duong 2 Hotel, Bao Lac.
After breakfast, visit a Black Lolo village, then set off for Cao Bang (180 km – approx. 5 hours by road) through breathtaking landscapes. Along the way, discover ethnic minority markets where you will meet the Colorful Lo Lo, White Hmong, and Red Dao communities. The women, dressed in their beautifully embroidered traditional cotton garments, welcome you warmly; their lacquered black teeth give their smiles a distinctive charm.
Dinner and overnight in Cao Bang, at Thanh Loan Hotel or similar.
Departure for the Ban Gioc waterfalls, traveling through splendid landscapes. The surrounding mountains offer a truly majestic spectacle. Visit the Ban Gioc waterfalls, located on the border with China, as well as the Nguom Ngao Cave. Lunch in a local restaurant. Return to Cao Bang, and depending on time, visit the local market. Overnight at Thanh Loan Hotel or similar.
After breakfast, drive to Ba Be National Park (150 km – about 3.5 to 4 hours by car). Upon arrival, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, embark on a half-day boat trip on Ba Be Lake and the Nang River, surrounded by stunning landscapes of mountains and limestone cliffs. Along the way, visit the Dau Dang Waterfalls and the Puong Cave. Return to Pac Ngoi village for dinner and an overnight stay in a Tay traditional homestay.
After breakfast, take a bike ride to visit Hua Ma Cave and observe daily life in Pac Ngoi village. Then return to Hanoi via the scenic mountain road passing through Cho Chu and Cho Don. Stop for lunch in a local restaurant along the way. Visit the Museum of Ethnology in Thai Nguyen, before continuing to Hanoi, where you will arrive around 7:00 pm.
