Overview

Between Tradition and Modernity, Hanoi Will Charm You!

Located in the Red River Delta, Hanoi is the second most populated city in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City. More importantly, it is the country’s political, administrative, and historical capital. In 2010, Vietnam celebrated the 1,000th anniversary of this city, founded in 1010 by King Ly Thai To. Since then, Hanoi has most often been chosen as the capital by successive powers, except during the imperial period when Hue was preferred by the Nguyen dynasty.

Hanoi therefore boasts a long history, visible in many of its landmarks: the Tran Quoc Pagoda, the city’s oldest; the Temple of Literature, a symbol of Confucian education; the Long Bien Bridge, echoing the French colonial era; and the Old Quarter with its 36 guild streets, which served as the commercial heart of the city for centuries.

Here are some suggested day tours to help you discover Vietnam’s capital and its surroundings.
