Here we offer you a superb 16-day tour to discover Myanmar in depth.
You won’t miss a thing during this journey: Yangon, the former capital and the most dynamic city in the country; Mandalay, the former royal capital; Bagan, an archaeological site of fascinating beauty; Inle Lake, timeless and serene; Loikaw and its incredible Taung-gwe Pagoda.
Along the way, many surprises and encounters await you between these destinations.
This is a private tour including the services of one or more French-speaking guides for your visits.
Tour unavailable due to the country’s unstable political situation.
Warm welcome by our representative at Yangon airport. Yangon, the country’s largest city, served as the capital until 2005. You will begin your visit with the impressive reclining Buddha at Chauk Htat Gyi, located near Shwedagon, which is also an important place of worship. Continue your exploration with a tour of downtown Yangon. Stroll along Pansodan Street with its magnificent colonial-era buildings, discover Sule Pagoda—a daily place of worship in the city center—and visit the Secretariat, the former Ministers’ Building, which stands as a cornerstone of Myanmar’s history and the site of General Aung San’s assassination. Before sunset, visit the Shwedagon Pagoda, one of Asia’s most stunning pagodas and the most revered monument in the country.
Meals are at your own expense.
Included in the day: Airport pick-up and transfer to your hotel, private car transport, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Yangon Airport for your flight to Mandalay. Mandalay was the last capital of the Konbaung dynasty until 1885, when it fell into British hands. Today, the city remains the largest religious and cultural center of the country, where you can experience the authenticity of an older Asia and the deep religious beliefs of Buddhism.
Your visits to Mandalay’s main attractions include the revered Mahamuni Pagoda with its Buddha statue covered in layers of gold, as well as other ancient relics of Theravada Buddhism. Mandalay boasts a rich Buddhist heritage, with extraordinary monasteries, some of which are hidden or closed unless our guide arranges with the monks for a special visit. Among the most famous sites, you will discover the fantastic Shwenandaw Monastery, built entirely of teak wood, and the extraordinary Kuthodaw Pagoda with its hundreds of stupas housing the world’s largest open book carved on marble slabs.
End the day with a stunning sunset in Amarapura, enjoying a unique view of the majestic Ayeyarwady River and taking in authentic local scenes without the usual crowds (most tourists visit in the morning after the Mahagandayon Monastery).
Included in the day: Breakfast, transportation, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
Today, you will be driven in a private car to Bagan (approximately a 3-hour journey). This scenic drive will allow you to admire the agricultural landscapes stretching along the Ayeyarwady River. Upon arrival in Bagan, you will discover one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Asia, with more than 2,200 pagodas scattered across the plains along the legendary Ayeyarwady River. You will have time to explore the city’s charms at your own pace.
Included in the day: Breakfast, transportation, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
For your first archaeological experience, you will explore some of the oldest and most important temples in Bagan. For instance, Shwezigon Pagoda, a prototype of the earliest Burmese stupas, and Htilo Minlo Temple. Later, you will visit Shwesandaw Pagoda, an idyllic spot for its panoramic views, as well as Wetkyi-in Gubyaukgyi, a 13th-century temple adorned with fine mural paintings.
In the afternoon, you will continue with Sulamani Temple, built by King Narapatisithu, then Dhammayangyi Pahto, a temple from the later period renowned for its exquisite brickwork, and return to Shwesandaw Pagoda for another stunning viewpoint. Finally, you will enjoy Bagan’s famous sunset from a hill selected by your guide or private driver for the best views.
Included in the day: Breakfast, transportation, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
Early in the morning, you will be transferred to the Ayeyar jetty for a beautiful boat excursion to Kyun Thiri village(approximately 1 hour). Kyun Thiri is actually an island where you can walk through rice fields and various plantations until you reach the village monastery. The island is submerged under water for almost six months, making the soil fertile and the agriculture abundant. Locals take advantage of this to grow seasonal products. This is the best time to visit and enjoy this authentic little village near Bagan.
The main interest here is to observe and interact with the locals, who are always very friendly and much less accustomed to tourists. It is an intimate and unique experience in a region often known only for the temples of Bagan. After the visit, return to Bagan, where you can enjoy half a day exploring around Bagan on an E-bike.
Included in the day: Breakfast, transportation, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
Today, you will be driven to Lei Thar Gone. Just 2 hours from Bagan, in the heart of the Burmese countryside, lies Lei Thar Gone, a remarkable support project and a wonderful human experience. Created from scratch by an ambitious Burmese man a few years ago, the goal was to combine the useful with the pleasant by building several recreational bungalows alongside a solidarity school located about a hundred meters away.
This bold project is now bearing fruit. 200 students from underprivileged families or orphans attend this school, whose supplies, repairs, teachers’ salaries, and overall operation depend entirely on the guesthouse’s activity. There are only 14 rooms available, and a small “home-style” restaurant open only in the evening (the food there is particularly good).
The setting of Lei Thar Gone is idyllic. Perched on a hill, this small establishment offers spectacular views of the lush green plains intertwined with the Irrawaddy River. All bungalows are surrounded by gardens with luxuriant vegetation, creating a true haven of peace.
On the way, you will have the opportunity to visit Mount Popa, an extinct volcano known as the home of the Nats (spirit deities). If you climb the 777 steps leading to the summit, you will find the Taung Kalat Temple, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the region.
Included in the day: Breakfast, transportation, English-speaking guide, entrance fees, overnight at the hotel.
Today, you will have time to leisurely explore the charms of the surroundings near your accommodation. You can also try activities offered by the locals, such as fishing or a short hike. The income generated will go directly to them.

Today, you will be transferred to Nyaung U Airport for a flight to Heho. Upon arrival, you will head to Htut Ni village, where you will witness the daily life of the Danu people (one of Myanmar’s ethnic minorities) who mainly cultivate tea.
Next, you will explore another village called See Kya Inn, surrounded by a majestic landscape filled with rice fields and tea plantations. Here, you will enjoy a typical and magical meal served in a local home.
After lunch, your journey continues to the villages of Taung Pawgyi and Htin Sue Kone, ideal places to interact with locals and learn about their way of life.
Overnight in a monastery or local house. Approximately 4 hours of walking in total.
Included in the day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking guide, transportation, overnight at a local home or monastery.
Early in the morning, after a local breakfast, you will head to Pin Sein Pin village. The journey is beautiful and full of encounters that offer a great cultural immersion.
After enjoying a nice lunch in a remote village, you will continue towards Kan Hla Kone, discovering along the way the mountain tribes who frequently gather in these regions.
You will then arrive at Kan Hla Kone to enjoy a pleasant evening and rest for the night.
Included in the day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking guide, transportation, overnight at a local home or monastery.
After enjoying a nice local breakfast at the monastery or homestay, you will continue your exploration toward Shwe Pa Hto village. The path leading there is absolutely stunning.
At the end of this visit, you will return to Pindaya after about 3 hours of walking.
After completing your trekking and having lunch, you will have the opportunity to discover the surroundings of Pindaya. This town is famous for its caves housing nearly 8,000 Buddha images, placed there over the centuries. Made from various materials and in different sizes, the statues fill every corner of the numerous cavities. The site remains an important place of worship for the Burmese, as locals frequently come here to pray.
In the late afternoon, you will be transferred by car to Inle Lake. Overnight at the hotel.
Included in the day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, English-speaking guide, transportation, overnight at the hotel.
You will start your day exploring Inle Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This abundant lake lies 900 meters above sea level, stretching 20 km long and 10 km wide.
Boat trips across the lake take you through various villages and floating gardens, allowing you to admire the locals’ skill in managing their banks and understand their unique way of life.
Highlights include the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, home to four highly revered Buddha images, as well as Nga Phe Chaung Monastery (surrounded by floating gardens) and the village of Nan Pan, where you can witness the traditional handmade construction of wooden boats.
Along the way, your boat will make several stops, passing through charming floating gardens and welcoming, more remote villages. The main goal is to avoid tourist traps, such as Inle Lake’s souvenir markets (including some “5-day markets”) and souvenir shops (unless specifically requested).
However, there are unique and interesting artisans worth visiting, such as in Inpawkhone, where you will see traditional silk weaving workshops and watch how lotus flowers are processed into fibers to create fabrics. Still, be aware that many shops in this area mainly focus on selling souvenirs.
To end your day, you will take a walk in Thaleoo, a small agricultural village on the lake’s edge, where you can observe authentic scenes of local life. Farmers here grow a wide variety of seasonal crops. It is undoubtedly one of the lake’s most charming villages, with particularly friendly and welcoming locals.
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Included in the day: Breakfast, English-speaking guide, transportation, entrance fees (boat), overnight at the hotel.
Today, you will head by boat to the impressive archaeological site of Sagar and Thakong, featuring stupas and sculptures that are sometimes submerged in water (depending on the season), the oldest dating back to the 16th century.
This day will allow you to discover a less-visited part of the lake, where the scenery remains authentic and spectacular. This section is remote (approximately 3.5 hours by boat in total).
If you wish, you will have time to visit a small pottery workshop in the village of Kyauktaung, home to some Pa-O and Shan people who live in a very traditional way. Here, locals also produce rice alcohol.
You will then continue further south (about 1.5 hours from Sagar) to reach Phekong, the first major town in this remote and lesser-known part of Myanmar. Our representative will then meet you for the transfer to Loikaw, the capital of Kayah State, which only opened to tourism in 2011.
The landscapes on this excursion are among the most extraordinary and remote in this beautiful region. Depending on the available time, you may have the opportunity to start visiting Loikaw.
Overnight at the hotel in Loikaw.
Included in the day: Breakfast, English-speaking guide, transportation, entrance tickets, overnight at the hotel.
You will begin your visits with the local market, followed by Phoperyone Monastery, which was once the palace of the King of Kayah. This monastery still preserves photographs and objects that belonged to the governor of this remote region.
Next, you can visit the small Kayah Cultural Museum to learn about their history and the minorities living in this area before continuing with the visit to the former palace.
Loikaw is also famous for its traditional Burmese dress fabrics. There are several workshops you can visit, and you will also have the chance to purchase some of the finest quality fabrics in Myanmar.
Finally, you will head to the amazing Taung Gwe Pagoda, which is very different from the rest of the pagodas in the country, as it is built on top of two separate rocks.
Here, you will witness a truly special sunset, offering one of the best views in the country, in a region surrounded by mountains, rivers, and an overall surprising agricultural abundance.
Included in the day: Breakfast, English-speaking guide, transportation, entrance tickets, overnight at the hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to Pain Chit village. Upon arrival, you will head to the villages of I-Sant and Sin Phyu, where you will witness the daily life of the Lisu people.

You will then get off at Kyee Myin Daing, where you can interact with local vendors and residents, who are always happy to chat with visitors. Next, you will head to the Bogyoke Aung San Market (also called Scott Market, closed on Mondays and public holidays), a large complex built in 1926, famous for its wide variety of handicrafts and typical items from all over Myanmar – an excellent opportunity for some last-minute shopping.
Afterwards, you will visit Mahabandula Park, followed by a relaxing stroll around the beautiful Kandawgyi Lake and its flower gardens, where you will admire the mythical Karaweik barge. This is a lovely setting to experience the everyday life of Yangon residents.
