Vung Tau

Overview

Enjoy the Coast Near Ho Chi Minh City

Vung Tau, once named Cap Saint Jacques by the French, is Ho Chi Minh City’s seaside resort.

During the colonial period, it was a fairly important seaport, and Paul Doumer, then French Governor of Indochina (and later President of France), built a mansion here — the Villa Blanche (Bạch Dinh) — which still stands proudly by the sea.

As a beach destination, Vung Tau is worth a stop, especially if you are heading toward the Central Highlands. Here you can enjoy warm waters, relax on beautiful white-sand beaches, savor fresh seafood, and try the town’s well-known local beer.

All this under the watchful gaze of Christ the King, whose giant statue towers above the bay from the hillside.
